Application Process
Applications are not considered complete until all application materials are received (including the application deposit). Once all of the application pieces are checked (refer to the Progress Meter at the top of the page) and the application deadline and/or decision date has passed, applications will be reviewed. Students will be notified by the Student Mobility Office through their hawk.iit.edu email.
After students are Accepted, students will have until the Commitment Deadline to log back into their application to Commit to their program. Students will then have access to the next set of requirements for the Committed stage of their application.

Illinois Tech Application
- Click the Apply Now button at the top of the program page of your chosen program
- Complete your application
- Contact the Faculty Leader(s) for the program to inform them of your interest and complete any additional steps required by the Faculty Leader or Academic Department
- Submit your online application by the deadline
- Receive an email notification when your application is Accepted

Log back in to Commit to your program by the Commitment Deadline
Exchange partners have their own application requirements and deadlines. You should work on the Illinois Tech and the Host University application steps at the same time.
Illinois Tech Abroad Application
- Click the Apply Now button at the top of the program page of your chosen program
- Complete your application
- Submit your online application by the deadline
Exchange Nomination
- Receive a notification of application status through your hawk.iit.edu email within two weeks after the application deadline
- If you are accepted by the Illinois Tech Student Mobility Office, we will nominate you to the host university
- Receive an email notification when your application is Accepted

- Complete your host university application by their application deadline
Host University Acceptance
- Upload a copy of your host university acceptance letter to your application

Once you have decided on a provider program and have begun the provider's application, register your program with Illinois Tech by choosing the provider here and clicking the "Register your Program" button.
- Complete your application
- Submit your online application by the deadline
- Receive an email notification when your application is Accepted

- Upload a copy of your program acceptance letter to your Illinois Tech application
Application Preview
Log In Page
The Login button is located below the sites header on the right side.
Illinois Tech students should click the "Log in with Campus ID" button and use their hawk credentials to create an account. If you receive a log in error or are not an Illinois Tech student, click the "Log in with Portal Account" to create an account.
When you return to your application, you should log in with the same method you first created your account.
Program Search
To search programs, go to the Study Away drop down menu and click on "Search All Programs". This will take you to a page where you can specify various filters for the type of program you are looking for.
You can also click on the "List All" button at the top of this page. This will take you to a list of all active programs. Programs with a start next to them are Featured programs. They are either Faculty-Led programs (Illinois Tech courses) or Exchange programs (Illinois Tech students pay Illinois Tech tuition while taking courses at a host university).
Program Page
Each program page will contain information and links specific to that program - including what program type it is. To apply to a program, click the "Apply Now" button.
You will then need to choose the term you wish to study abrpoad in. Applications open a few months before their application deadline. If you are plannning ahead and the appliation fo the term you wish to study abroad for is not yet available, you can create an advising application and let us know which program and term you are interested in
Application Home Page
In your application home page, you will see the requirements you need to complete as well as the completed requirements. You can also view program information.
Types of Requirements
Some requirements are documents you need to read and agree to via electronic signatures, such as the liability form. Others are forms that you need to complete, such as the emergency contact information. You will also need to upload documents depending on the type of program, such as the Course Approval Form.
Submit Your Application
Be sure to click the "Submit your application" button after completing the requirements.
